DNPW Detection Dog Unit

WCP aided the establishment of a DNPW Wildlife Crime Detection Dog Unit, based at DNPW headquarters in Lusaka. The unit consists of four highly trained DNPW dog handlers and four detection dogs. To date the dogs have been imprinted with the scent of elephant ivory, rhino horn, bushmeat, ammunition, rifles and pangolin scales. Through continued support from WCP and our donors the unit primarily operates in and around Lusaka and at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport.

The Lusaka DNPW dog unit was established through Invictus K9 by funding from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and now receives operational funding from Vulcan’s Paul G. Allen Foundation working alongside Niner Juliet Logistics and the Zambia Airport Corporation Limited.
